A Message From Our Founder and President

I know what you're thinking. This message, like most "Welcome Back" messages, is going to be some cheesy come-on full of emotion and set to elevator muzak. You're thinking I'm going to tell you how great I am, how wonderful Macinstruct was in the past, and how incredible it will be in the future.

Fortunately for both of us, I'm not going to write a message like that.

I will tell you that there are two types of websites: Those that try to make money and those that don't. It's easy to tell one from the other. We've all been to websites that clutter their content with advertisements and restrict articles to paying customers. And let's be honest here -- while advertising makes great articles possible, it's not easy on the eye. Who enjoys weeding through flashing banners and pop-up advertisements?

But the problem with advertising on the Internet is not merely one of inconvenience. In many cases, websites profit from people's inexperience and routinely prey upon those confused by new hardware and software products. There's simply no excuse for this morally-bankrupt and unethical practice.

I can assure you that Macinstruct will never resort to these sorts of practices. As a non-profit organization, we're moved by people -- not driven by profits. We're here for you, and we're going to keep working on our website, and our content, until we get it right. We won't stop until we have the best information out there.

Steve Wozniak said years ago that we "wind up being slaves to the technology" that's supposed to empower us. The entire Macinstruct team has been working long hours over the past six months to ensure that doesn't happen. We're creating an accurate and freely-available reference that will grow for years to come.

And speaking of the Macinstruct team, I'd like to take a moment to thank our volunteers. These ordinary people have done a lot of extraordinary work to make this website possible. Their dedication and passion for helping people is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

So, on behalf of the entire Macinstruct team, it is my pleasure and honor to welcome you back to Macinstruct.

Sincerely,

Matthew Cone
